What is Squarespace, and is it the right choice for you?💡
I build my clients’ websites on Squarespace. Squarespace is a website-building platform that offers a broad selection of templates, which can be customized to meet the individual needs of most small businesses and freelancers. I use it because it allows me to build websites that work for my clients in the long run—let me explain
My biggest argument for using Squarespace
My biggest argument for using Squarespace is its clean and intuitive editing interface, combined with easy navigation. This enables my clients to manage and maintain their websites on their own after we’ve created them together.
One of the main issues many of my clients face before working with me is that they can’t maintain or update their websites independently. They’re often dependent on a web designer or agency to make even the smallest changes or updates because the backend of their current websites is outdated, overly complex, or requires advanced coding skills.
The time and money required to outsource every little adjustment often prevent them from keeping their websites up-to-date. This leads to outdated designs, information, and imagery on their websites, which can reflect poorly on their business—the exact opposite of what a website should do! 😬
In addition to its user-friendly interface, I appreciate Squarespace’s integrated marketing tools and detailed analytics. However, it does come with certain limitations, which you should consider as well. In this blog post, I’ll break down the advantages and disadvantages so you can decide confidently whether Squarespace—and working with me—is the right choice for you!
The Pros of using Squarespace
1 Convenient
Squarespace lets you manage website building, domain hosting, and additional functionalities like appointment booking, newsletter marketing, and search engine optimization—all on the same platform. This means less stress about technical stuff, and you won’t need to juggle multiple logins and subscriptions.
2 Customizable
With a wide selection of templates for various industries and purposes, Squarespace offers plenty of flexibility. While you start with a template, you never end up with a page that feels boring or generic—especially if you know a few tricks (which I’ll happily share with you 😇)!
3 Mobile Friendly
Most website traffic today comes from mobile devices, so it’s essential that your site looks great on all screen sizes. Squarespace makes it easy to optimize your site for desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
4 Easy to Use
As I mentioned earlier, Squarespace makes it simple to keep your website up-to-date. Small updates, like changing an image or address, can be done in seconds. Even bigger updates—like publishing blog posts or adding new design elements—can be managed without any coding or programming skills. When we work together, I’ll also provide video tutorials to ensure you’re confident in managing your site.
5 Detailed Analytics
Squarespace provides built-in analytics and integrates seamlessly with Google Analytics and Google Search Console. This makes it easy to track your website’s performance and evaluate the results of your SEO efforts.
The Cons of using Squarespace
1 No Advanced Customization
While the templates are customizable to a large extent, there are limitations. For the sake of user-friendliness and convenience, you might have to compromise on complex custom features. If you’re highly tech-savvy or need a website with very specific functionalities, Squarespace might not offer the flexibility you need.
2 E-commerce Limitations
Squarespace is ideal for small online stores, but it’s not the best fit for large-scale operations or businesses requiring advanced e-commerce features, like multi-currency support or detailed shipping calculations.
So, is Squarespace right for you?
Squarespace will work really well for you when you want a website that you can manage and maintain on your own and without a lot of effort or coding skills and if you appreciate convenience and a clean, all-in-one solution.
Squarespace is not suitable for you when you need extensive customization or complete control over your website’s technical details or advanced e-commerce features to run a large online store.
